UToledo, ProMedica Finalize Academic Affiliation Agreement
The University of Toledo and ProMedica Health System have signed a new Academic Affiliation
Agreement that will support medical education in the greater Toledo community for
the next decade.
The new agreement replaces the previous agreement that was first created in 2015 and
continues the original intent of the partnership to attract and retain the best medical
students, residents and fellows to Toledo and support access to high-quality healthcare
in our community.
“UToledo and ProMedica are both very different institutions today than when we first
entered this agreement, but our shared commitment remains to enhance the training
and education of future physicians in our community,” said Dr. Gregory Postel, president
of UToledo. “We are excited to continue our partnership that supports our strong UToledo
College of Medicine and Life Sciences and academic medical community.”
“We are pleased to have reached a new agreement with UToledo that will continue to
meet the original goals of our affiliation and continue to be in the best interests
of northwest Ohio,” said Arturo Polizzi, president and chief executive officer at
ProMedica. “Having a strong ProMedica and a strong medical college will serve our
community for years to come.”
The new Academic Affiliation Agreement restructures the partnership through June 30,
2033. ProMedica will continue to provide financial support for the academic mission
of the UToledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. And the new academic partnership
specifies the number of UToledo residents and in which specialties will train at ProMedica
facilities.
An Academic Affiliation Operating Group with representatives from both organizations
will continue to oversee the affiliation.
The new Academic Affiliation Agreement was approved by the UToledo Board of Trustees
on April 24 and the ProMedica Board of Trustees on April 25.
