Public Records Requests
The University of Toledo is a public institution and, therefore, its records are subject to the Ohio Public Records Act (see link below).
A record is defined by Ohio Revised Code 149.011(G) as: "any document, device, or item, regardless of physical form or characteristic, including an electronic record...created or received by or coming under the jurisdiction of any public office of the state or its political subdivisions, which serves to document the organization, functions, policies, decisions, procedures, operations, or other activities of the office."
It is important to remember, however, that not all records kept by The University of Toledo are subject to disclosure. For example, student education records, patient records, security and infrastructure records, trade secrets, records related to ongoing litigation and any attorney-client privileged communications, as well as others, are all statutorily exempt from disclosure.
To facilitate a timely response, members of the media seeking records may submit requests to Meghan Cunningham of University Marketing and Communications. All other requesters may submit requests to the Office of Legal Affairs either in person, by telephone, in writing (including e-mail) or through the online request form below.
