Dr. Nina McClelland Biology and Chemistry, 1951 Chemistry, 1962 Honorary, 2003 Outstanding Alumna in the Natural Sciences
Dr. Nina McClelland received her bachelor's degrees in Biology and Chemistry in 1951, and her master's degree in Chemistry in 1963, and went on to become chief chemist and head of industrial wastes for the City of Toledo. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1968 and has spent the past 35 years garnering international recognition for her achievements in the fields of environmental science and technology. She has been the chief executive officer for the National Sanitation Foundation Board, chair of the board of the American Chemical Society, and now serves on the board of the American National Standards Institute. In 2003, the University of Toledo awarded her an honarary doctorate. Dr. McClelland has more than 100 books, articles, and scholarly presentations to her credit, and she is currently appointed to the presidential commission on the Human Genome Project. |

Christi Paul Communication, 1993 Outstanding Alumna in the Social Sciences
Christi Paul received her bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism Communication in 1993, and has been a news anchor for CNN's "Headline News" in Atlanta, Georgia since 2003. Ms. Paul began her broadcast career as a news anchor, reporter, photographer, and editor in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She went on to work at an NBC affiliate in Boise, Idaho, where she received an Idaho Press Club award for a series of stories following a 4-year-old girl who underwent a 5-organ transplant. Christi has also worked as a news anchor, weather producer and weathercaster, and consumer reporter for ABC and CNN affiliates in Phoenix, Arizona. |

The Hon. John Potter Political Science and History, 1940 Outstanding Alumnus in the Social Sciences
John Potter received his bachelor of philosophy degree, majoring in Political Science and History, in 1940, and after serving active duty in World War II, received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1946. After serving in private practice for a number of years, Mr. Potter was elected to the Toledo City Countil in 1961, and was chosen to be mayor of the City of Toledo through 1967. During his term, Mayor Potter was instrumental in downtown redevelopment, neighborhood renewal projects, and open space programs such as the Swan Creek Park acquisition. In 1968, he served as assistant attorney general of the State of Ohio, and from 1969 to 1982, he served as judge of the Sixth Appellate District of Ohio. Judge Potter is now retired. |

Roy Schneider Art, 1981 Communication, 1993 Outstanding Alumnus in the Arts
Roy Schneider received his bachelor's degree in Art in 1981, and his second bachelor's degree in Communication in 1993. More than 20 years ago he joined the former Medical College of Ohio as an orderly, and one day sketched a comic-book-type artery on a chalkboard. When it was discovered by physicians, they suggested he look into studying medical illustration, which he did at the University of Michigan. Mr. Schneider is now the manager of medical illustration at UT's Health Science Campus. His recent work includes the multi-media computer program "Anatomy & Physiology Revealed," which won the McGraw-Hill 2005 Corporate Achievement Award. | |
