When you turn 18 years old, the medical profession has a legal and ethical responsibility to protect your privacy. That means that EVERY visit you have is strictly confidential and that information about your visit will not be released to ANYONE without your written permission. Information will be released without your consent only in matters of law or public health.
Obtaining Service and Canceling Appointments
There are two ways to access medical care at the Student Medical Center:1. Schedule an appointment by calling 419-530-3451. We encourage you to schedule an appointment for routine care and/or more chronic situations. You may also schedule an appointment for an illess so that you can work around your school or work schedule. If you are unable to keep your appointment, it is important to call at least two hours prior to your appointment time. This courtesy will allow other students the opportunity to use your appointment time. A patient who does not arrive for an appointment is considered a "no show." Please click on "About Us" to learn more about no shows and subsequent fees.
2. Access service through the Walk-In Clinic. Walk-in times will be posted during Fall Semester.

The Student Medical Center is unable to provide medical services for patients with any form of Medicaid (State or HMO) with the exception of Paramount Advantage. If you have Medicaid, please contact your insurance company for direction.
What to Bring to Your Appointment
Valid student ID or other official picture ID (such as a driver's license)
Information regarding all medication you currently take and any other pertinent health care information we should know about.
Your medical health insurance card
A method of payment for any possible charges.
A copy of your prescription drug card.
If this is your first visit, please plan on arriving several minutes early to complete paperwork.
If the student's health care provider has diagnosed a student with an illness or injury which requires specialty care, our office can make the appropriate referrals as a convenience to the student.
Urgent Care Services
Although the Student Medical Center is not an emergency room or urgent care clinic, we do provide acute and/or urgent care for minor illnesses and injuries, including sprained ankles, suturing, etc. Remember ... unless you have a critical illness or injury, or unless it is a true emergency situation, avoiding the emergency room will not only save you time, it will also save you money!
Gynecology Services
If you are a female student, you may want to take advantage of the services offered at the Student Medical Center. These services include annual and initial gynecological examinations (PAP tests); testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STD's); urinary tract infections; pregnancy testing; and birth control methods and counseling.
Psychiatric Services
It is atypical for the college campus to provide psychiatric services. At UT, psychiatric services for medication evaluation and management are available. The student utilizing these services is required to be actively involved in individual therapy ... with either a Student Health Services therapist or a therapist from within the community.
Pharmacy Services
The Student Medical Center's pharmacy (530-3471) operates much like your neighborhood pharmacy. We accept prescriptions from our doctors as well as doctors from the "outside." Prescriptions can be phoned in to our pharmacy (to save you a commute), or we can call a prescription in to the pharmacy of your choice. Unlike medical services, the pharmacy does accept a considerable number of prescription drug cards. Call if you have a question about whether or not your prescription drug card will be accepted. Please make sure you have a copy of your card with you when you come in.
Another thing that we can do for you: If you are a student taking a chronic medication, let us know. If you wish, we can make sure that we have a supply of your medication on hand.
The pharmacy is equipped with voice mail. You may wish to call in a prescription after hours. If so, please follow the prompts on the voice mail regarding your name and prescription information. Our pharmacist will get your prescription ready for you to pick up first thing the following work day. This service is available for established prescriptions only. Initial prescriptions must be called in by the physician's office, or transferred from another pharmacy.
Lab Services
Another service we are pleased to offer is our laboratory service. If a medical provider is ordering a lab test, you don't even have to leave the building! If our lab does not process the test you are having performed, our reference laboratory will generally have the results delivered within 24 hours. In the case of tests that are done here, results are generally done the same day ... and often times before you even leave the building!
The laboratory is able to perform laboratory tests using "outside" orders. If your medical provider at home wants you to get lab work done, and it is more convenient to do it here, please bring in a lab order and we can do the testing here. It is more convenient for you to call first to find out the best time to come. On certain days, and during certain times of the year, our laboratory can experience a back-up and you may experience a wait.
Immunization and Allergy Injection Clinic
Do you get an allergy shot every week (or even twice a week)? Yes? If so, you may be interested in our allergy injection clinic ... especially if you travel home two to three hours each way ... just to get a shot! Working with you and your allergist, we will store your serum at the Student Medical Center and administer your allergy injections for a nominal fee.
We also provide other injections and immunizations, such as meningitis vaccinations, tuberculosis skin tests, tetanus shots, MMR vaccinations, etc.
The Injection Clinic operates on an appointment basis. You can make an appointment by calling 530-3451.
HIV/AIDS Testing
Free, confidentail HIV/AIDS testing is available at the Student Medical Center. This service is provided by Substance Abuse Services, Inc (SASI). You DO NOT need to be a registered student to use this service. To make your confidential appointment, please call the Student Medical Center's appointment line: 530-3451.
