Welcome from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. The mission of our department is to conduct world-class research in various branches of physiology and pharmacology, train the next generation of scientists and serve the scientific community. Our activities are captured in a periodical ‘Chair’s update’.
We have a robust research portfolio in Physiology and Pharmacology with outstanding scientific footprint in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases as well as in cancer, immunology, neuroscience and pulmonary physiology. The Department provides an outstanding scientific platform for microbiome research. Two of the University Council approved Centers, the Center for Hypertension and Precision Medicine (CHPM) and the Center for Diabetes and Endocrine Research (CeDER) originated from the Department. Our faculty members are well funded investigators from the National Institutes of Health and from foundations such as the American Heart Association, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and have a track-record of publishing in top-tier journals in their fields.
We take pride in providing a thriving environment for our learners who range from undergraduate students to postdoctoral trainees. Our faculty teach and mentor M.D., M.D./Ph.D. and Ph.D. students who are admitted to the Molecular Medicine (MoME) track in the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program. Our Department is proud to also offer a pioneering program called the ‘Dean’s Postdoctoral to Faculty Transition Fellowships’. We also host a post-baccalaureate program-Master of Science in Biomedical Science with concentration in Medical Sciences (or MSBS-Medical Sciences). We offer professional training for our students in various formats including seminars from invited speakers of high repute.
Physiology and Pharmacology Faculty are members of various scientific societies and serve the Scientific Community at multiple levels as Editors-in-Chief, members of editorial boards, study sections and leading scientific sessions.
Whether you are a prospective student or faculty interested in joining us, we welcome you to peruse our website. Thank you.
