From the scientific researcher exploring new sources of energy, to the artist in the studio creating a new masterpiece, to the surgeon finding a new way to treat the critically ill, to the English professor helping shape the next Hemingway, to the staff member showing a lost student how to find their classroom, to the custodian polishing these hallowed halls, we are all here to help make the world a better place today and for generations to come.
Your University of Toledo Trustees are dedicated to fostering an environment that improves the human condition and enables our students, faculty and staff to achieve our institutional vision as a transformative force for the world. Through our high quality academic programs and outstanding clinical services, we can and do make a difference in the lives of those around us and around the world.
The UT Board of Trustees has primary fiduciary responsibility for the institution, but its role goes far beyond simple dollars and cents. We pride ourselves on shaping the strategic vision for The University of Toledo and empowering its leaders and employees to carry out that vision.
In July 2006, I wrote that "We must leave to those who follow us a clear road map of where we have come, a strong foundation on which they can build, and a legacy of institutional greatness that will serve future generations." These words still hold true today, reflected in the tireless efforts of our board members who are working hard to further an institutional legacy of excellence.
I consider it a privilege to serve you as chairman.
