The German program and the Department of Foreign Languages are pleased to make available selected broadcasts from German t.v. that have been recorded for educational use. In the summer of 2003 the UT German program was awarded a satellite dish from the American Association of Teachers of German. The equipment was installed in the spring of 2004, and recording began in May 2004; the recording ended in summer of 2005. German TV, which was the source of the recorded material, ended broadcasting on December 31, 2005. At present no new broadcasts are being recorded.
The German program expresses its appreciation to the Kohler Fund, the Center for Teaching and Learning, and the German Club for their financial support; and Plant Operations and Telecommunications, the Department of Foreign Languages, and FLLC Supervisor of the Foreign Language Learning Center for their technical support.
All recorded broadcasts are housed in the Foreign Language Learning Center, 5150G University Hall. There is a catalogue of broadcasts that lists them alphabetically as well as by category. For each tape there is a detailed description of the broadcasts.
Any student or teacher interested in borrowing a copy of a broadcast may request one at no charge. Just follow this procedure:
1. Contact the lab director regarding which tape you would like a copy of.
2. Make arrangements to pick up and return the tape.
In order to minimize costs, it will not be possible for any copies of tapes to be mailed, unless you provide a self-addressed envelope with the necessary postage.
All copies are only for private use by students and/or educational use by teachers.
The programs are in German only. There are no subtitles. Since many of the broadcasts are originally from German t.v., they follow European television standards. Thus, there may be scenes, especially in movies, that might be slightly more graphic than what is seen on American t.v.
