The Ohio Crystallography Consortium
Through an OBOR Investment Fund Grant, the Ohio Crystallography Consortium (OCC) was created in 1995. Its purpose was to enhance X-Ray crystallography research at the universities in Ohio. Through the initial grant, two X-ray crystallography instruments were purchased. One instrument uses a CCD detector for small molecule crystallography, while the other instrument is used for protein crystallography. In addition, each participating university in the consortium was equipped with a 3D graphics system, to facilitate sharing of resources and a protein crystallization facility, and to aid in sample preparation. The major instrumentation is located in the Instrumentation Center at UT.
The Consortium provides a centralized site for access to X-Ray diffraction technology across the state of Ohio. By consolidating resources in the area of crystallography, the Consortium is better positioned to serve both established and emerging research at state universities and also industries.
