- The University of Toledo is the largest provider of online courses amongst Ohio’s four year institutions. UT is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association and is authorized to offer degrees online.
Distance and eLearning has received the “Best Practices in Students Services” designation from the Ohio Learning Network. This designation is awarded to institutions that provide comprehensive information and services for distance learning students as outlined in OLN’s Principles of Good Practice.

The University of Toledo Definition for a DL Course
Distance learning (DL) course: in a distance learning course the student and instructor are separated by distance and connected via technology (Web, CD-ROM, ISDN lines, IP Video) for at least 70% of the course content and course interaction.
Students truly at a distance are advised to contact the course instructor or department prior to registration to determine if coming to campus is a requirement of the course.
Earned Hours Required for a Degree
The University of Toledo requires a student to earn a minimum of 60 semester hours to be awarded an associate's degree and a minimum of 124 semester hours to be awarded a bachelor's degree. Some colleges/programs require that more than the minimum of 60-124 hours be earned. In addition, a student must have a cumulative University of Toledo GPA of at least 2.0 in order to qualify for graduation. For specific information consult the individual colleges. Earned hours are those hours that each college of the University counts toward fulfilling specific degree program requirements. Hours counted toward degree requirements may vary depending on the college/degree program a student enrolls in is pursuing. Source: The University of Toledo Catalog, page 31.
