    A Quick Overview of CESP

    The Department of Counselor Education & School Psychology is located in the College of Health Science and Human Service of The University of Toledo. CESP offers a variety of programs including master's degrees in School Counseling and Community Counseling, a master's/education specialist degree program in School Psychology, a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision, and post-masters training toward endorsement as a licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (PCC) in Ohio. Graduate counseling programs have been accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) while the School Psychology program is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

    About the Faculty

    Full-Time CESP faculty and staff include Martin Ritchie (Ed.D., University of Virginia), Professor of Counselor Education & Supervision and Chair; Wendy Cochrane (Ph.D., University of South Florida), Assistant Professor of School Psychology; Yi Ding (Ph.D., University of Iowa), Assistant Professor of School Psychology; Paula Dupuy (Ed.D., University of Cincinnati), Professor of Counselor Education & Supervision; John Laux (Ph.D., University of Akron), Associate Professor of Counselor Education & Supervision;  Nick Piazza (Ph.D., Southern Illinois University-Carbondale), Professor of Counselor Education & Supervision; Kathleen Salyers (Ph.D., Ohio University), Associate Professor of Counselor Education & Supervision; and Sue Martin, Department Secretary.

    About the College of Health Science & Human Service

    CHSHS became the newest college at the University of Toledo when it was created July 1, 2006, when the University of Toledo merged with the Medical University of Ohio. UT's then College of Health and Human Services merged with MUO's College of Health Science. The new CHSHS offers 47 undergraduate and graduate degree programs through 11 departments in two divisions. CESP resides in the Division of Human Services along with Social Work, Criminal Justice, Undergraduate Legal Studies, and Military Science. The Division of Health is home to the Departments of Health Professions, Health and Rehabilitative Services, Kinesiology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies. CHSHS is dedicated to providing quality undergraduate and graduate programs in the professional fields of health and human services through a continuous commitment to education, research, and service.

    About the University

    The University of Toledo is one of 13 state universities in Ohio. It was established in 1872 and became a member of the state university system in 1967. The University of Toledo and the Medical University of Ohio merged in 2006 to form the third-largest public university operating budget in Ohio. UT is a community built around eleven academic colleges and professional programs matched only by a handful of public universities nationwide, including The Ohio State University and the University of Michigan. UT's main campus, located along the banks of the Ottawa River in a residential section of the city, includes historic buildings, modern facilities, contemporary residence halls, and abundant  green space. The University of Toledo Health Science Campus is home to UT Medical Center hospitals and clinics and many of UT's health-science research and education programs that are teaching the next generation of physicians, nurses and other health care professionals. The University of Toledo is conveniently situated within easy driving distance of Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnatti, OH; Ann Arbor and Detroit, Michigan; and Chicago, IL.

    About Toledo

    The city of Toledo is located on the Maumee River in Northwest Ohio near the western edge of Lake Erie. The population of Toledo is about 350,000, while the metropolitan area has about 750,000 residents. Toledo is the 49th largest city in the U.S., and a center of industry and automotive assembly. Toledo offers a variety of cultural and recreational activities including a world class art museum, zoo, science center, triple A baseball, ECHL hockey, and water sports. In addition, Toledo is within easy driving distance of Detroit and Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati, Ohio.
