    University Kicks Off Major Campaign

The University of Toledo officially launched its capital campaign on Sept. 14, with an event that also recognized the significance of UT's recent merger with the former Medical University of Ohio.

President Lloyd Jacobs, M.D. and George Isaac at the Campaign KickoffThe kickoff of the $100 million campaign was celebrated at the University Medical Center on UT’s new Health Science Campus (the former MUO campus), at the dedication of the George Isaac Minimally Invasive Surgery Center.

The new center, which UT President Lloyd Jacobs called the most modern outpatient facility in Northwest Ohio, was established with a $1 million gift by businessman George Isaac. A long-time MUO benefactor, Mr. Isaac said his gift was a demonstration of support for the new center as well as the new University of Toledo.

The Time Is Now Campaign has already raised more than $60 million in its "quiet" phase, and will be reaching out to more alumni and friends nationwide during the next few years of the public phase. Other major gifts include $15 million from Marvin and Judy Herb to the College of Education, and $6 million from Chuck and Jackie Sullivan, designated for Savage Hall and scholarships.

"This is the time for all of you, in every way you are able, to the degree you are able, to support this capital campaign," said Dr. Jacobs. "We’ve reset our goals and widened our vision, but the community’s support is the one thing that hasn’t changed."

Campaign priorities and goals, for both the Main Campus and the Health Science Campus, are as follows:

    • Scholarship Endowments: $9-$13.5 million
    • Endowed Chairs and Professorships: $36 million
    • Campus Improvement: $25.5-$41 million, for projects including Carlson Library, Memorial Fieldhouse, the Complex for Business Learning and Engagement, Savage Hall, science laboratories and classroom upgrades
    • Engagement Initiatives: $8-$11 million, including UT Jazz Initiative, Visual Arts Initiative, National Center for Parents, Great Minds Lecture Series, Toledo Science and Technology Corridor
"We're optimistic that, with the foresight and generosity of alumni and friends, we can reach these goals," said Vern Snyder, UT vice president for institutional advancement. "The result will be our ability to attract nationally renowned faculty members, improve our facilities and enhance the experience of our students both inside and outside the classroom."
