Technology Transfer and Commercialization Partnerships Report

Welcome!

The Partnerships for Innovation (PFI) program held its first grantees workshop at the Westin Arlington Gateway Hotel in Arlington,Virginia in close proximity to NSF headquarters. The workshop was hosted by the University of Toledo.

PFI, a unique and highly successful National Science Foundation program, promotes innovation by fostering partnerships between colleges and universities; private sector organizations, including profit and nonprofit; and federal, state and local government. These partnerships galvanize innovation and connect new scientific discoveries to activities of economic and societal importance.

The PFI program, now in its 9th year, has created a diverse community that spans academic institutions, the private sector, and government. This inaugural event brought together representatives from PFI projects from inception to the present in an exciting and dynamic event. The list of attendees is available in two formats: alpha by individual and by state and institution.

The workshop provided opportunities to network and share PFI experiences and knowledge. The breakout sessions provided a forum to talk about program successes and challenges. Opportunities to meet informally with NSF staff from the Division of Industrial Innovation and Partnerships as well as with the PFI Program Director were highlights of the workshop.

Please note that an NSF-funded evaluation of the PFI grant program is being conducted by a team from the Kaufmann Foundation: Maryann Feldman, Professor of Public Policy at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will lead the project, working in concert with Christopher Morphew, Associate Professor of Higher Education at the University of Georgia and Janet Bercovitz, Assistant Professor of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. PFI awardees will receive a request to respond to a six-question survey.
